Acura is a Honda badge with Honda immobilizers underneath on every generation in our reference set but one, and for key work that is good news. On the generations we have documented in detail — the 2014-2020 and 2022-2025 MDX, the 2019-2025 RDX and the 2015-2020 TLX — the access notes read standard OBD-II with no security gateway, no G-Box and no PIN, so the car gets decoded, cut and programmed where it is parked instead of towed. What Acura does do is change chips mid-nameplate. The same badge can be ID46 in one model year and ID47 the next, or ID47 in 2021 and Hitag-AES in 2022, and those fobs are not interchangeable. Pinning the exact year down before dispatch is most of the job. The generation that sits outside the Honda platform entirely is the second-generation electric ZDX, which is a GM Ultium car and gets flagged as such before it is quoted. Acura Key Technology Explained
Acura ran through four Honda-platform chip generations, plus one car that is not Honda at all. From the late 1990s the Honda-G system used a Megamos ID13 fixed-code transponder in the 1996-2004 RL, the 2001-2003 CL, the first-generation NSX, the 1999-2003 TL and the 2001-2006 MDX; because it is fixed-code, a working key can be cloned onto a fresh HD106 rather than programmed. From the mid-2000s Philips ID46 Hitag2 crypto took over: the 2004-2008 TL and TSX, later RSX, the 2007-2012 RDX and the 2007-2013 MDX YD2, the 2005-2012 RL Keyless Access fob and the 2010-2013 ZDX. ID47 Hitag-3 then arrived on a staggered schedule — 2014 on the Gen3 MDX, 2015 on the Gen1 TLX, and only 2016 on ILX, RLX and the RDX smart key. That split matters: a 2013-2015 ILX is still ID46 on a KR5434760 and a 2014-2015 RLX is still ID46 on an ACJ932HK1210A, and both move to the ID47 KR5V1X only from 2016. Model year 2022 brought NXP ID4A (Hitag-AES, NCF29A1M) on the KR5TP-2 fob to the Gen4 MDX and the RDX; Integra joined the same platform in 2023 and ADX in 2025. An ID47 fob will not pair to an AES car.
Acura Models We Service Most Often in DFW
Acura MDX
Gen3 (2014-2020) is ID47 on the KR5V1X fob at 313.8 MHz FSK. Gen4 (2022-2025) is Hitag-AES on KR5TP-2 at 433.92 MHz, with some 2025 cars on KR5BTP. Both are all-keys-lost over OBD with no PIN and no G-Box. The Gen3 record also flags Driver-1/Driver-2 memory slots, so the fob has to be matched to the right driver profile. Older MDX is a different animal again: 2001-2006 YD1 is Megamos ID13 on an HD106 8-cut, 2007-2013 YD2 is ID46 Honda-G on an HO01/HON66 laser blade.
Acura RDX
The chip split is model year 2022: 2019-2021 cars take ID47 on KR5T21, 2022-2025 take Hitag-AES on KR5TP-2. Both are 433.92 MHz and neither fob works in the other car. A wrong-family blank is a wasted key — it cuts and opens the door fine, it simply will not program. Earlier RDX splits too: 2007-2012 is turn-key ID46 Honda-G on an HO03-PT high-security blade, 2013-2015 smart is ID46 on KR5434760, 2016-2018 smart is ID47 on KR5V1X.
Acura TLX
The first-generation TLX hides two frequencies inside one generation — 2015-2017 is KR5V1X at 313.8 MHz, the 2018 facelift moved to KR5V21/KR5V2X at 433.92 MHz. Aftermarket KR5V21 listings disagree with each other on frequency, so the FCC label on the car's own fob is the authority, not the catalog. The 2021-and-newer UB7 second generation is a separate platform to verify on its own.
Acura TL
Fourth-generation TL (2009-2014) splits by trim: base turn-key cars use an MLBHLIK-1T flip key on a HON66/HO03 laser blade, Keyless Access cars use an M3N5WY8145 ID46 smart fob in Driver-1 and Driver-2 variants. Second-generation TL (1999-2003) is Megamos ID13 on HD106; third-generation (2004-2008) is Philips ID46 on HD111. Both older gens are 8-cut edge keyways decoded with a Lishi HON58R.
Acura Integra & ADX
Both run the KR5TP-2 Hitag-AES smart platform — Integra from 2023, ADX from 2025 — shared with the Gen4 MDX and, per the Integra record, the 11th-generation Civic. All-smart-keys-lost is straight OBD with no external PIN, and a spare adds over OBD with a working fob present. Remote-start and Type S Integras carry the 5-button KR5BTP instead.
Acura ZDX
Two entirely different vehicles wearing one badge. The 2010-2013 YB1 crossover is a Honda ID46/PCF7945A smart fob (KR5434760) on a HON66 insert. The 2024-and-newer electric ZDX is GM Ultium — ID49 Hitag-Pro, YG0G21TB2, HU100 blade, dealer SPS2 as the sanctioned path, and not in the Acura immobilizer menu at all.
Common Acura Key Problems We Solve
Wrong-frequency fob bought online
A KR5V1X and a KR5V2X are near-identical in a listing photo, but 313.8 MHz FSK and 433 MHz never talk to each other. The Gen3 MDX record says it outright: do not substitute a 433 MHz Honda KR5V2X. Confusingly, KR5V2X is genuine Acura hardware — the 2017-2022 NSX uses it — which is exactly why the part has to be matched to the car rather than to the badge.
ID47 blank on a 2022 Hitag-AES car
RDX and MDX both crossed from ID47 to Hitag-AES for model year 2022. An ID47 blank will not program to an AES vehicle, and once it has been cut it is scrap. We confirm the chip family from the year and VIN before anything touches the cutter.
Emergency blade will not open the door
Acura hides the mechanical cylinder behind a cap on the driver door handle, and most owners never use the insert until the day the fob dies. If the blade is worn, wrong or missing, we decode the door lock on site and cut a fresh one — brass on 2022-and-newer cars, because the steel OEM inserts chew up cutters.
Dead fob battery, car will not start
Usually not a dead car. On the push-button Acuras, with the brake pressed, hold the fob against the START/STOP button until the ring lights, then push to start. On the 2024-and-newer MDX and RDX the procedure is reversed: press the button first, wait for the flash and beep, then present the fob. If the car still will not wake up, that is a diagnosis, not a key sale.

Confirm VIN, model year and chip family by phone
Acura changed transponder families mid-nameplate on RDX, ILX, RLX and MDX, and changed frequency mid-generation on the TLX, so the year gets pinned down before the van is loaded — ID13, ID46, ID47 or Hitag-AES, and which FCC ID the car expects. Guessing here costs both of us a trip.

Decode the door lock and cut the blade
Nothing is stamped on the car. The driver door handle cap comes off and the wafers are decoded with an Original Lishi HON66 2-in-1 — or a HON58R on the older 8-cut HD106/HD111 keyways — then the blade is cut in the van from the decoded cuts.

Program over OBD-II
The Autel IM508/IM608 goes into the factory OBD-II port. On the MDX, RDX and TLX generations recorded as standard OBD-II with no SGW, that means straight into All Keys Lost with no PIN and no G-Box. Programming a 2014-2020 MDX is estimated at 15-25 minutes and a 2022-2025 Gen4 MDX at 20-35; the AES cars run with a battery maintainer on the vehicle.

Test everything before we pack up
Push-button start, remote lock and unlock, tailgate, panic, Driver-1/Driver-2 memory recall where the car has it, and the freshly cut insert in the driver door cylinder. Note that an all-keys-lost write erases every previously paired fob, so any old key still floating around stops working — which is the point.
