Dodge's Key Technology

Dodge runs the Chrysler immobilizer platform — a 4-digit PIN read is required, and 2018 and newer vehicles need a Security Gateway bypass. MyKey Locksmith carries Dodge-compatible diagnostic and programming equipment to handle all Dodge key types — from basic transponder keys to advanced Smart Key fobs with proximity entry and push-button start. Our mobile automotive locksmith arrives at your DFW location with the tools and key blanks to create your new Dodge key on-site, no towing required.

Most Common Dodge Models We Service in Dallas

Our DFW automotive locksmith team services all Dodge models, with the most common being: Ram 1500/2500, Charger, Challenger, Durango, Grand Caravan. We service Dodge vehicles across all DFW cities including Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, Irving, Arlington, and surrounding areas.

Dodge Key Replacement Cost in Dallas

Basic Dodge key (mechanical, no chip): $55-85. Transponder key: $125-175. Smart Key fob (proximity + push-button start): $190-280. Emergency lockout service: $75-125. All prices include key cutting, programming, and mobile service — no hidden fees. We save you 30-50% compared to Dodge dealership pricing in DFW.

Common Dodge Key Issues in DFW

Dodge Ram trucks are extremely popular in DFW. The Fobik key (integrated key+fob) used on 2008-2019 models is unique to Chrysler/Dodge — it must be programmed with WiTech-compatible equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make a Dodge key if I lost all my keys?

Yes. We create new Dodge keys from scratch even with zero working keys. We access the immobilizer system directly, erase old key data, and program your new key as the primary. All-keys-lost service is the most complex scenario but we handle it on-site without towing.

How long does Dodge key replacement take?

Standard key with transponder: 20-30 minutes. Smart Key programming: 30-45 minutes. All-keys-lost scenario: 45-90 minutes depending on the Dodge model and security system generation.

Is a locksmith cheaper than the Dodge dealer?

Yes — typically 30-50% less. Dodge dealerships charge premium labor rates plus parts markup. MyKey uses OEM-equivalent key fobs at wholesale pricing, and our mobile service eliminates towing costs. Same quality programming, significantly lower price.

Do you warranty Dodge key replacements?

Yes. All Dodge key replacements come with a 1-year warranty covering the key fob hardware and programming. If the key fails due to a defect within 12 months, we replace it at no charge.

Why Choose MyKey for Your Dodge

About Our Dodge Locksmith Service in Dallas-Fort Worth

Dodge is all over North Texas — Ram work trucks on jobsites in Garland and Grand Prairie, Chargers and Challengers on the tollways, Durangos and Grand Caravans doing the school run in Plano and Frisco. It is also a lineup where the year on the badge tells you very little on its own, because Chrysler changed the key system four separate times: Sentry Key blade transponders, ID46 remote-head keys, the FOBIK that twists into the WIN ignition slot, and finally push-button proximity. Two Dodges from the same model year can need completely different parts, and on several models the split is by trim rather than by year. We pin the system down from the VIN before the van leaves the shop.

    Dodge Key Technology Explained

Dodge immobilizers break into four systems, and which one a vehicle carries depends on the model as much as the year. Chrysler Sentry Key on the Texas Crypto 4D64 chip covers roughly 2000 to 2006 depending on the nameplate — Neon PL 2000-2005, Intrepid 2000-2004, Durango DN 2001-2003, Stratus sedan 2001-2006, Ram DR/DH 2002-2005 with late-build 2005 trucks already on ID46. From 2004-2005 Dodge moved to Philips Crypto ID46 / Hitag2 (PCF7941) as a bladed remote-head key at 315 MHz: Durango HB/HG 2004-2009 into the SKREEM, Magnum LX 2005-2007, Charger LX 2006-2007, Ram DH 2006-2008, plus the Caliber, the Nitro and the 3rd-gen Dakota. From 2008 that same ID46 chip moved into the FOBIK that twists into the WIN slot at 433.92 MHz, with no ignition blade to cut at all. Push-button Keyless Enter-N-Go arrived in 2011 on the M3N-40821302 fob, still ID46 inside (PCF7945A / PCF7953A), and in 2019 FCA moved that fob to Hitag-AES 4A (PCF7953M) on the Charger, Challenger and Durango — but not on the Journey, which stayed ID46 to the end of its run in 2020. The other hard line is 2018, when the Security Gateway landed on the Charger, Challenger, Durango and Journey and key writes had to go through the green STAR connector instead of the OBD port; our data has the RT Grand Caravan largely staying off the gateway even in its late years, with a note to verify a 2018-2020 van because some do carry it. Every Chrysler-system Dodge here that has an immobilizer still needs the 4-digit PIN. The ones that need no programming at all are the pre-immobilizer trucks: the 1998-2000 Durango DN, and the black-key Dakotas and base Rams that were never fitted with Sentry Key.

Dodge Models We Service Most Often in DFW

    Dodge Charger

Three key systems under one nameplate. The 2006-2007 LX is a 315 MHz remote-head key on a Y164 blade; 2008-2010 switched to the 433.92 MHz WIN-slot FOBIK — different key, different frequency, not interchangeable — and two fobik FCC IDs circulate across that span (IYZ-C01C and M3N5WY783X), so we match the fob on the car rather than the year. 2011-2014 splits by trim: base SE and fleet cars take the FOBIK in the dash WIN slot, R/T and above take the M3N-40821302 prox. Every 2015-and-later Charger is push-button. On 2018+ we tap the green STAR connector behind the passenger glovebox, or the same splice under the trunk carpet.

    Dodge Challenger

2008-2014 is pre-gateway FOBIK for the whole run, including the Keyless Go cars, which use the same fobik as a passive key rather than the M3N-40821302 smart key. Two FCC IDs circulate across those years (IYZ-C01C and M3N5WY783X), so we match the fob to the car rather than the model year, and used fobiks will not program — virgin only. The 2015 interior redesign made push-button standard on every trim; 2019+ is Hitag-AES.

    Dodge Durango

The widest span of any Dodge here. The 1998-2000 DN has no immobilizer at all and a cut Y157 blade simply starts it. 2001-2003 is 4D64 Sentry Key into the SKIM. 2004-2009 HB/HG is an ID46 remote-head key into the SKREEM — and 2004 trucks built before 17 May 2004 carry a defective WCM that refuses any new key code until the module is replaced, so we check the build date if one will not take a key. 2011-2013 WD splits base FOBIK against Keyless Enter-N-Go prox, and 2014-2024 is push-button on every trim with the gateway break at 2018.

    Dodge Ram / Ram Pickup

Dodge-badged through 2010; 2011-and-later trucks are their own make with a different fobik. On 2002-2005 DR/DH trucks the key color tells you the job — gray means Sentry Key 4D64 on a Y160, black means no immobilizer and a plain Y159 cut — and late-build 2005 trucks are already on ID46 with a Y164. The 2006-2008 DH is a 315 MHz ID46 remote-head key. The 2009-2010 DS trucks are WIN-slot FOBIKs with no ignition blade to cut at all.

    Dodge Journey

One of two Dodge proximity platforms our records keep on ID46 for their whole run — 2011 through 2020 stays on ID46 / Hitag2 (PCF7945A / PCF7953A), so a fob that fits a 2019 Charger is the wrong chip for a 2019 Journey; the 2013-2016 Dart prox is the other, on PCF7953. The 2018-2020 cars do carry the gateway, but the accessible green STAR connector is not behind the glovebox like the Charger's: on the JC it sits at the driver-side dash end behind the headlight-switch panel, with a second one on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel. AutoAuth will not open key programming, so it has to be physically tapped. Base SE and Value trims are WIN-slot FOBIK rather than prox — the start button is the tell.

    Dodge Grand Caravan

Our records carry the RT minivan as a slot FOBIK on ID46 / PCF7941 across the whole 2008-2020 run, with no prox entry on the platform — so a prox fob is the wrong part. They also have the RT largely staying off the Security Gateway even in its late years, which usually makes even a late van a direct OBD job; some 2018+ vans do carry it, so we verify by VIN before promising it. Two fobik FCC IDs circulate (IYZ-C01C and M3N5WY783X), so we match the fob on the van.

    Dodge Dart

The Fiat-based outlier — the keyway is SIP22 / Y171 and the tool is a Lishi SIP22, not the Lishi CY24 our records list for the Chrysler-keyway Dodges. It is not the only Dodge off the CY24: the Dodge-badged Sprinter takes a Mercedes double-sided blade instead. Keyed trims take the M3N32297100 bladed remote key on ID46 (PCF7961 / PCF7936); Keyless Enter-N-Go trims take an M3N-40821302 smart fob on PCF7953. The two do not interchange. No gateway on 2013-2016, so both are direct OBD.

Common Dodge Key Problems We Solve

Online fob will not pair on a 2019+ Charger, Challenger or Durango

The label still reads M3N-40821302, but the chip changed from ID46 / Hitag2 (PCF7945A / PCF7953A) to Hitag-AES 4A (PCF7953M) for the 2019 model year. A mismatched blank programs to nothing. We confirm the chip generation from the VIN before we buy the fob.

FOBIK ordered for a push-button car (or the reverse)

A twist slot in the dash means WIN-slot FOBIK; a start button means proximity. The M3N-40821302 prox fob works only on push-button cars and will never operate a WIN-slot vehicle. One photo of the dash settles it before dispatch.

Secondhand fob that has already been programmed to another car

Chrysler FOBIKs and PEPS smart fobs learn to one vehicle. Our Keyless Go Challenger notes are explicit — used fobiks will not program, virgin only — and the same applies to the virgin FOBIK a 2009-2010 Ram DS wants and the virgin smart fob a push-button Dart wants.

Shop has AutoAuth but still cannot cut keys

AutoAuth credentials let a 2018+ Dodge be read, but they do not authorize immobilizer writes. Key programming needs a physical tap at the green STAR connector.

All keys lost with no stamped key code

Chrysler leaves no accessible code and the dealer sells cuts only by VIN. We pick and decode the driver door with a Lishi CY24 2-in-1 — positions 2-8, which is the full emergency-insert spec on a fob car — and cut the blade on the van, adding the position-1 progress cut when the vehicle has a bladed ignition.

How Our Dodge Key Replacement Process Works

    1. 1

VIN and system check before we roll

We establish the year, whether the vehicle takes a bladed key, a WIN-slot FOBIK or a push-button prox fob, and which chip generation it uses — 4D64, ID46 / Hitag2 or Hitag-AES 4A — so the correct blank travels with the technician instead of becoming a second trip.

    2. 2

      Mobile dispatch across DFW

The van comes to your driveway, workplace, or parking lot anywhere in Dallas-Fort Worth, typically arriving in 20-30 minutes.

    3. 3

Decode the door and cut the blade

For lost keys we decode the driver door cylinder with a Lishi CY24 2-in-1 and cut a Y159 or Y164 blade from the reading on the van, adding the position-1 progress cut on bladed-ignition trucks. Dart keyways are Fiat SIP22 and take the Lishi SIP22 with a Y171 blade instead.

    4. 4

      Gateway tap and PIN read

On 2018-and-newer Charger, Challenger, Durango and Journey we reach the green STAR connector — behind the passenger glovebox on the first three, at the driver-side dash end behind the headlight-switch panel on the Journey — plug the 12+8 bypass into an open port, and read the 4-digit immobilizer PIN. Pre-2018 vehicles skip this and go straight in through the OBD port. The RT Grand Caravan largely stayed off the gateway even in its late years, so it is usually a direct OBD job too — on a 2018-2020 van we verify rather than assume it.

    5. 5

      Program and verify

We program the new key or fob to the module. Where the routine includes an erase-all step — the 2009-2010 Journey fobik path is the one our records spell out that way — the keys already in the module are cleared as the new one is learned, so a key that walked off with a previous owner stops starting the car. Then we test: ignition or start button, doors, panic, and the dead-battery routine for that platform — hold the fob against the START/STOP button with the brake applied on a prox car, or push the FOBIK fully into the WIN slot, which powers a dead fobik inductively.
